2011 is all about bringing out your personality and the best possible you. Time to try something new and be a bit adventurous...

How do I know whether a new style/ hair colour will suit me? Lindsey Ryan, 22, Bishop’s Stortford

What are the trends for 2011? Angie Woodley, 30, Bishop’s Stortford

The big trend is to be versatile with your hair; wear it curly or smooth add lots of volume and bounce. Definitely keep hair soft and flattering. Don't forget BIG HAIR! We love BIG HAIR!! And if you’re going to wear it up make it an ‘undone do’ – which means don't try too hard, try some back combing and don’t be too fussy! To fi nd out if a new style or colour is right for you, you will need to consider your face shape, complexion and lifestyle. You want to enhance your best features; make it manageable and keep it low maintenance. Be daring and try something different, add layers or a sexy sweeping fringe, it doesn’t mean having lots of hair chopped off-

Trends for 2011? Elegant and eccentric. Either beautiful luxurious hair with soft waves and movement with delicate tones of chocolate and caramel to create a sophisticated and demure look or very much an individual unique style, from a dramatic pixie look, short and sharp to a vibrant asymmetrical image using rich aubergines, passionate plums or ravishing reds.

At Elements we recommend that you book for your cut and blow dry every 6-8 weeks to maintain your style. Ask your stylist to book you for your following appointment so you can ensure you maintain your look and at the same time budget for your future appointment. As an example if you have a global (full head colour) you should have your roots renewed every 4-6 weeks to ensure you always look fantastic. With highlights there is not so much of a commitment as you can have your roots renewed every 8 to 12 weeks.

There is also the option of having a semi permanent colour which will add shine gloss and vibrancy as everyone should have some form of colour to complement and enhance to make a good haircut, a fabulous haircut!

The latest hair trends are all about feminine, versatile styles that you can wear one way, then re-style another. Short hair is in for sure - think Emma Watson's latest look. The super-short cut silhouettes the head, putting facial features into the spotlight. A haircut this short will suit small, symmetrical features as the face will become the main focus. Wondering whether to chop off precious locks can be daunting so fi nd hairstyle pictures you like and discuss with your stylist to see if
they will work for you, your hair type and face shape. A short haircut can still be versatile, longer top layers can be sleek or tousled, ruffl ed up with texturizer for daytime, tucked back or spiked up for a chic evening look.

For colour and style advice ask the professionals. They’ll consider face shape, skin tone, lifestyle, time available for styling, budget and personality. If you are unsure find someone whose hair you love and ask who does their hair. Recommendation is always the best way to go in my book.

Hair trendz 2011 are short with a heavy / A-symmetrical top and fringe is still top of the hair pops with strong reds and hair extensions coming together to give extra emphasis on this strong look – think Biba meets 60s Twiggy and then bring it into 2011.
